About us

Our mission

Oregon Environmental Council advances innovative, collaborative solutions to Oregon’s environmental challenges for today and future generations.

Our roots

Back in 1968, a group of ordinary citizens came together to form the Oregon Environmental Council. These were PTA and garden club members, outdoor enthusiasts, conservationists and other folks who believed they could get more done to protect the legacy of a clean and healthy Oregon by working together. Today—as a non-profit, non-partisan, membership-based organization—OEC puts these same values into action as we continue to bring Oregonians together for a healthy environment.

Our action plan

Oregon Environmental Council focuses on reducing toxic pollution that harms human and ecosystem health; advancing solutions to climate change; and improving stewardship of Oregon’s rivers. To achieve these goals, we:

  • Give individuals the information they need to protect what we love about Oregon
  • Help farmers and ranchers flourish economically while being rewarded for environmental stewardship
  • Help businesses profit while being responsible to the people and natural resources that sustain their success
  • Hold decision-makers accountable for laws and policies that protect the welfare of the people and places they represent
