Meet our Board of Directors

Secretary of State Bill Bradbury grew up in Chicago, and moved to Bandon, Oregon in 1971.  In Bandon, he owned and operated a small business before beginning his career in government.  He served in the Oregon legislature for 14 years representing portions of Oregon's south coast as a State Representative and as a State Senator.  He also held the positions of Senate Majority Leader and Senate President.

As Secretary of State, Bill Bradbury is Oregon’s second-highest-ranking constitutional officer.  He is the auditor of public accounts, the chief elections officer, and the manager of the state's official legislative and executive records. Along with the Governor and Treasurer, he sits on the State Land Board, and he was appointed by Governor Kulongoski to chair the Oregon Sustainability Board. Bill has also been appointed to sit as a member of Oregon’s Global Warming Advisory Commission, a group tasked with making recommendations to the legislature on how Oregon will meet its greenhouse gas reduction goals and tackle the adaptation challenges created by the impacts of climate change. Bill was one of the first 50 participants in Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Change training sessions and has given over 110 presentations.

 

 susanbrody.gifSusan Brody is a private consultant working in the areas of transportation, land use and collaborative problem solving. She is a Fellow of the National Policy Consensus Center at Portland State University and manages projects and training programs for the Center. Susan was Executive Director of the State of Oregon's Dispute Resolution Commission from 1999 to 2002. Prior to that, she held a number of positions in state and local government, including Director of the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development, and Planning Director for the City of Eugene. She also served for eight years on the Oregon Transportation Commission. Susan is a member of the American Leadership Forum and has participated in a variety of civic activities and international projects. Susan has a masters degree in city planning from M.I.T., a masters degree in political science from University of California at Santa Barbara, and a bachelors degree in political science from Reed College. Her home is in southeast Portland.

 

sjcamarata.gifS.J. Camarata, Jr. has been a director since 1984 of ESRI, Inc. (Environmental Systems Research Institute), a global software development and consulting firm. S.J. currently sits on the boards of directors of OpenGIS, Inc., NovaLIS Technologies, Inc., and RAINS (Regional Alliances for Infrastructure and Network Security). He sits on OEC's Executive Roundtable Advisory Board and is also a member of an Advisory Board for Utah State University. He co-founded two companies: EBT Mobile Scanners, LLC and IRIS International, Inc., and was president of Geostrategies. S.J. has as a BS degree from the University of Utah, an MLA degree from Utah State University, and is a member of the Sigma Lambda Alpha National Honorary Society. He makes his home in Bend.

 

suedensmore.gifSue Densmore founded Sue Densmore Communication Strategies, a full service marketing and public relations consulting firm, in 1994. Previously, she was General Manager of Rogue Waste Systems, Dry Creek Landfill and Rogue Disposal and Recycling. Sue specializes in community, business and organizational development with an emphasis on strategic planning, resource development, public relations and marketing. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Oregon State University and completed the Marketing Management Program at Stanford University. Sue is a member of the President’s Board of Advisors for Oregon State University and a member of the Oregon Progress Board. She is a founding member of the Urban Renewal Agency for the City of Medford. Sue is a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum of Oregon and a member of Medford Rogue Rotary. Sue lives in Medford and spends as much time as possible on her family ranch in Lakeview.

 

billedmonds.gifBill Edmonds is the Director of Environmental Policy & Sustainability at NW Natural. Bill’s work in the field of energy and environmental policy has included work as a consultant at ICF Incorporated, a staffer at the California Public Utility Commission and a policy director at both gas and electric utilities. He has served as the President of WEST Associates, a group of electric utilities throughout the West engaged in environmental issues, and is the former chair of The Climate Trust, a nonprofit with the mission of implementing projects to reduce greenhouse gases. Bill also is a fellow in the Portland chapter of the American Leadership Forum. Bill has a B.A. in Political Science from Williams College and a M.P.P. from the University of California at Berkeley. He makes his home in NE Portland.

 

michelegoodman.gifMichele Goodman is Executive Director of the J.W. & H.M. Goodman Family Foundation. Between 1994 and 2000, Michele worked at Intel Corporation and Sequent Computer Systems, developing marketing programs for their products. She also serves on the boards of the Grantmakers of Oregon & SW Washington and Metropolitan Family Service. She has a B.A. in Applied Mathematics and an M.B.A. in Information Systems Management. Her home is in Portland.

 

stevegreenwood.gifSteve Greenwood (Past President) is an Environmental and Public Policy Consultant, based in Eugene. He was previously with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) over 15 years, serving as Western Regional Coordinator, and Manager of their Solid Waste Program. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Oregon and an M.P.A. from Harvard University. Among his professional activities, Steve received a Fulbright fellowship in 1991, to advise the Portuguese government on Solid Waste policy. In 2000, he accompanied an Oregon legislative delegation studying environmental issues in China, and later chaired a reciprocal visit of environmental officials from Shanghai. He also has served on the board of the Willamette Restoration Initiative.

 

rickgustafson.gifRick Gustafson is Vice President of Shiels Obletz Johnsen, a project management firm with offices in Portland and Seattle. He joined the firm in 1987 and serves as a principal in the company. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Yale University and a Masters Degree in Urban Economics from Wayne State University. Rick was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives in 1975 and served on the Ways and Means Committee for two terms. In 1978, he served as Metro’s first elected Executive Officer, a post he held until 1986. He lives in northeast Portland.


cherylkoshuta.gifCheryl Koshuta is an independent consultant recognized for her environmental and sustainability leadership. She has over 25 years of experience, including most recently eight years as the Port of Portland's Director of Environmental Affairs and Chief Environmental Officer. Prior to that, Cheryl served as deputy director of environmental affairs at Lockheed Martin Idaho Technologies Company and as Manager of Regulatory Affairs for Westinghouse Idaho, both located at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory. She also headed up the State of Idaho's hazardous waste, solid waste and superfund programs in the 1980s. She began her career by practicing environmental law with both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Idaho Attorney General's office. Cheryl has a B.A. from the University of Utah and a law degree from the University of Washington. Cheryl makes her home in Lake Oswego.

 

jimlussier.gifJim Lussier is founder and principal consultant with The Lussier Center/TLC, which focuses on the quest for personal and organizational performance excellence through the development of optimum governance and leadership approaches. In addition to OEC’s board, Jim serves on the boards of Cascade Healthcare Community, Central Oregon Community College, and Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades. Governor Kitzhaber appointed him to the Oregon State Board of Higher Education where he served six years. He currently serves on the Oregon Health Policy Commission, appointed by Governor Kulongoski. Jim has been employed in health care for over 36 years in a variety of capacities. He makes his home in Bend.

 

jimowens.gifJim Owens, principal in Cogan Owens Cogan, LLC, is an environmental and land use planner with over 27 years of experience in project management, public policy development, strategic planning, community involvement and intergovernmental coordination for a wide variety of government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private clients. Jim has previously served on OEC's Board of Directors, is a former OEC board president and received a Distinguished Service Award in 1989. He is also the recipient of Distinguished Service Awards from three National Forests and the Oregon Department of Transportation; he was acknowledged as Volunteer of the Year in 2000 by Virgin Islands National Park. He has a long history of community service, including the Oregon Citizen Involvement Advisory Committee, Polk County Planning Commission, Salem Urban Growth Boundary Planning Commission, the Portland City Club's Committee on Land Use and Transportation, Portland Housing Advisory Committee, Multnomah County Public Safety Council, Portland Saturday Market, and Friends of the Willamette Greenway. Jim lives in Northeast Portland.

 

chrisrich.gifChris Rich is an attorney with Perkins Coie LLP, where he focuses on Environmental Law. Previously, Chris worked for the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality’s Statewide Enforcement Section and was involved in all major program areas with an emphasis in Environmental Cleanup and Water Quality. Chris is the current Chair of the Oregon Business Association's Environment & Economic Development Committee, working to attract and encourage sustainable business in Oregon. He also participates in other statewide land use and environmental advisory groups. Chris devotes his free time to his family, playing music with friends, fly fishing, and exploring Oregon's backroads, rivers and byways. His home is in Portland.

 

marywahl.gifMary Wahl is the Watershed Services Group Manager for the Portland Bureau of Environmental Services, which includes watershed planning and implementation, regulatory/policy, sustainable stormwater management, and the Endangered Species Act program. Previously, Mary spent 14 years at the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, primarily as Administrator of the Waste Management and Cleanup Division. She is an avid kayaker and hiker. Her "leftover" time goes to a local effort on the southern Oregon coast, the "Conservation and Rural Working Landscapes Initiative," whose goal is to marry conservation of natural resources with local ranching and timber operations. Mary lives in Portland.
