Some interesting news out of Salem today on the transportation front, especially for drivers in the Portland Metro area. A partnership between the Governor, the Oregon Dept. of Transportation, PGE and US Bank has begun installing the nation’s first solar demonstration project in a highway right of way. When completed, 104-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system will help illuminate the I-5/I-205 interchange in Tualatin. The new solar installation will cover about 28% of the 400,000 kw/h a year currently used by the interchange.
According to the Governor’s office, the solar highway demonstration project will be sourced exclusively to Oregon companies for materials, design, and installation.
