The time has never been better to join our Evergreen Society where a generous donor will match all monthly gifts dollar-for-dollar by Dec 31.

After being in the trenches at the Oregon Environmental Council (OEC) for over a year and a half, I’m happy to report that I’m more passionate than ever about the work OEC accomplishes. This passion has stirred my family’s desire to make regular donations to OEC. Despite a typically modest non-profit salary (83% of our money goes to program work), my family recently chose to join OEC’s Evergreen Society monthly donor program. And we’re not alone, 14 of OEC’s 19 staff members are Evergreen Society members.

I think the commitment of our staff speaks volumes to our belief in OEC’s ability to advance innovative solutions to Oregon’s environmental challenges that truly impact our lives today and for future generations. For further testimony of OEC, check out this great (and short) video of four Oregonians explaining why they love OEC.

2010 is going to be an exciting year with upcoming campaigns like the Climate-Friendly Communities bill and our work to ban toxic chemicals from children’s products. Bisphenol A (BPA) is one of the toxic chemicals we’re working to eliminate from children’s products. BPA was first developed as a synthetic sex hormone in the 1930s. Since then it’s been used as a chemical to make hard, clear plastic and the epoxy resins that line most aluminum food cans. Bodies can respond to even tiny amounts of the chemical in a way that interferes with the subtle cues form our endocrine system. Exposure of infants to BPA is particularly concerning because their developing systems are more vulnerable. With a 2 year old at home and a second one on the way, I think this is outrageous!

The time has never been better to join our Evergreen Society where a generous donor will match all monthly gifts dollar-for-dollar by Dec 31. If that’s not enticing enough, several local businesses have included special incentives for the Evergreen Society, see below:

  • $5 month = 1 lb bag of dried Clearwater Cranberries
  • $10/mo = Custom OEC Klean Kanteen
  • $15/mo = $15 gift card to Grand Central Bakery
  • $25/mo = EcoTeas gift set
  • $50/mo = 1 bottle of Organic Nation's O-N Vodka
  • $75/mo = Rogue Creamery gift pack
  • $100/mo = Magnum of Sokol Blosser's 2007 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir
  • $200/mo = 2 Oregon Shakespeare Festival tickets

I hope you’ll consider joining OEC today with a tax-deductible donation. Thanks for your time. Best wishes for a Happy Holidays and a prosperous New Year!
