Safe baby bill passed in Washington

Will Washington’s babies soon be safer than Oregon’s? Washington state representatives just voted 95-1 to get bisphenol A (BPA) out of children’s food containers. “The House saw this vote as a no-brainer,” says the Washington Toxics Coalition. Why should they continue to sell baby products that pose a health risk when plenty of safer options are available? The Federal government is much slower to act. Just this month, the FDA made a long-overdue statement that they share concern about exposure to the chemical and its effects on the brain, behavior and development of children. Years will pass and millions more will be spent on study before all children’s food containers are free of the toxic chemical – except in a few forward-thinking states. Washington could become the third state in the nation to ban BPA from baby bottles. Oregon could become the fourth, if our lawmakers act in February. Tell your legislators to pass a ban on BPA in children’s food and drink containers. See more on our bpa-free information page.
