The Path to True Sustainability
Business leaders understand that incorporating sustainable practices is important to the future of their organizations—and green chemistry is a promising way to do just that.
It’s official: Business leaders understand that incorporating sustainable practices is important to the future of their organizations. Now the challenge is for them to take action on these kinds of policies—and that can stump even the brightest organizations.
Green chemistry—which basically replaces toxic, non-renewable chemicals used in or to create products with non-toxic ones that utilize renewable resources—is a promising way for businesses to make real, tangible progress in pursuit of sustainability. And Oregon has some important resources, including visionary business leaders, nationally-recognized researchers and educators, and a consumer base that values sustainability, that makes it a prime candidate for green innovation.
On Friday, the Oregon Green Chemistry Advisory Group released its report, “Advancing Green Chemistry in Oregon,” which highlights the economic and environmental benefits of using green chemistry and provides recommendations for helping Oregon emerge as a leader in this field. Through green chemistry innovation companies can save money, create and retain jobs, and increase competitiveness while protecting people’s health and the environment. Sounds like a winning proposition to me.
