“We feel very fortunate and grateful for the things we have in life,” says Abby. “It is important to us that we stay aware of our blessings and try to give back to some greater good whenever we can.”
Native to Lincoln, Nebraska, Abby moved to Oregon five years ago and is now a Child and Family Therapist with a non-profit organization.
Scott works as a wine sales representative, and has lived in Oregon for three years. Abby says that Oregon feels like home because it’s a “perfect place for nature-lovers.” Scott and Abby can be found enjoying the outdoors in every season. “Nature is a huge part of who are, and a big part of our connection to each other.”
When Abby and Scott decided to get married, they kept what they liked from a traditional ceremony and threw away what they didn’t. As a twist on the tradition of wedding favors, they donated the collected money to two organizations most important to the couple. At the reception, they included a small card at each place setting describing the organizations and their decision to donate wedding gifts.
In addition to Oregon Environmental Council, Scott and Abby collected donations for the "Trauma Healing Project," a Eugene-based group providing education and direct support for individuals who have experienced some form of trauma. “Because of this, our wedding celebration was a true reflection of who we are and what really matters to us. And we received a lot of positive feedback from guests.”
“Scott & I were looking to connect with an organization that had the same priorities about the environment as we do,” says Abby. “We were so happy to come across OEC.”
Scott and Abby are aware of the challenges we all face to keep Oregon’s environment and communities healthy. They want to see healthy food, a healthy landscape and healthy people thriving. “OEC's work toward creating a sustainable food and farming system is so important,” says Abby. “We use knowledge about food to help us prioritize our own health and the health of those around us. Furthermore, we love yummy food! ”
Supporting OEC is part of Abby & Scott’s commitment to sustainable living. By making sustainable choices, the couple honors the rivers, mountains, ocean and wildlife that they love. “We are the people we truly want to be in Oregon. The Oregon outdoors are unlike anything you can experience anywhere else. We feel so blessed to have all of these things. To us, Oregon is home.”
