It's Your Oregon: Beth Herzog

Beth brought a wealth of experience to OEC. She has been an environmental educator and served as a legislative intern in Washington state. Asked what motivates her to pursue environmental work, Beth says she knows how important it is to motivate people to act on their values, especially when it comes to getting involved in the legislative process.

This graduate of Evergreen and Vermont Law school is clearly a star on the rise. We were lucky to have Beth as our legislative intern. Not only did she help researching policy options for the next session, she helped OEC offset our carbon emissions, and has helped us organize a highly successful "Yes on Measure 49" fundrasiing event.

Beth is a native of Washington state, but she obviously feels a strong connection to her adopted state of Oregon.

Beth brought a wealth of experience to OEC. She has been an environmental educator and served as a legislative intern in Washington state. "When you care, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and hopeless." She thinks it's extremely important that organizations like OEC give people access to the tools they need to make their legislative process work.

Asked about her response to OEC's tagline, "It's Your Oregon," Beth's eyes light up. "It's EMPOWERING," she says. "Not being from Oregon originally -- because I chose to live in Portland -- that statement gives me both a sense of accountability and a feeling of opportunity. I have a role in helping to protect Oregon, and to make it better."
