A Sustainable Economy
Document Actions
In recent
decades the concept of sustainability has become a driver for business
practices that protect the environment.
Environmentally sustainable businesses tend to reduce costs, enhance
profits, attract and retain employees and have consistently strong bottom
lines. And because sustainability and innovation go hand in hand, profitable,
exportable technologies are developed when business leaders take sustainability
to heart.
The Oregon Environmental Council is currently working to promote a sustainable biofuels industry and secure the adoption of economic development strategies that strengthen sustainable agriculture and community-based food systems in Oregon.
Each year we hold a Forum for Business and
the Environment series to promote dialogue on some of Oregon’s
most difficult environmental and economic challenges and to share positive,
profitable strategies that address these issues
Our
vision is that Oregon
will be a model in developing local sustainable businesses and industry
clusters in a range of areas such as green building and manufacturing, biofuels
and renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture. Rural and urban businesses
will thrive economically by integrating environmental stewardship as standard
practice into their operations.
Visit our online resource,
“On the Way to Carbon Neutral,” for tools and resources to reduce your business’s
carbon footprint. Whether you are
planning to make your business carbon neutral, or simply want to take series of
smaller step to save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we have
compiled a highly adaptable roadmap to help you develop and implement a climate
action plan.
Not all biofuels
are equal from a sustainability perspective. Read all about it in the brand new report from the Oregon Environmental Council, Fueling Oregon with Sustainable Biofuels.
