One type of resource that can help businesses reduce waste is a waste exchange program. These programs can be found in various states around the country and have been successful at creating positive financial results for participating businesses. Essentially, a waste exchange program helps businesses find cost-effective, environmentally-friendly ways to obtain and dispose of materials and other resources by matching potential sources for raw material inputs and recipients of unwanted wastes.
Here in the Portland Metro region, a cooperative project between the Columbia Corridor Association and Zero Waste Alliance called ResourceFull Use is interested in helping businesses learn about a waste exchange program. There is a free workshop this week to help connect manufacturers who may be interested in the program.
