It is now indisputable that water and energy are interdependent. Energy development stresses water supplies while using water requires massive amounts of energy. At a time when climate change obliges us to reduce carbon emissions and enhance the resiliency of our rivers, demand for both water and energy is growing. As a result, understanding and utilizing the connections between water and energy will become increasingly vital.
In response to these issues The River Network, one of OEC's partners, is sponsoring a workshop highlighting integrated approached to addressing climate change and protecting rivers.
Key topics covered in this workshop include:- An overview of the projected effects of climate change in the Northwest
- New tools for understanding the energy and carbon emissions embedded in different water uses
- The potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting water conservation, efficiency, reuse and low impact development
- Freshwater impacts of energy development
- Local projects and incentives designed to curb greenhouse gas emissions, reduce water demand and improve water quality
