This week, in a partisan deal behind closed doors, our elected representatives decided to block the bill banning toxic BPA from children’s products from coming to a vote before the House of Representatives. The Senate has already passed Senate Bill 695 with a majority of votes, and the bill had strong support from Republicans, Democrats, parents, businesses, health experts—and the Governor. Why did House leadership stall Senate Bill 695, designed to protect our children from a toxic chemical in their food and drink? Why can’t Oregon act, when states including Washington pass similar bills with a near unanimous vote? Here’s your chance to ask them: Next Tuesday, Republican House Co-Speaker Bruce Hanna will be visiting Washington County for a town hall meeting with your state Senator Bruce Starr (who voted in support of the Senate bill) and your state Representatives Shawn Lindsay and Katie Eyre Brewer. This is your opportunity to ask them, in person, why politics are allowed to interfere with the health and safety of our children.
Sign up to attend this town hall where you can ask Speaker Hanna and your state legislators why they are playing politics with the health and safety of our children by refusing to ban the toxic chemical BPA. If you haven't already, please let your elected official know how disappointed you are about this.
