Step 1 - Introduction to OEC Volunteer Network and Outreach Tools

Overview of the OEC Volunteer Guide

The Oregon Environmental Council Volunteer Network is a group of people committed to OEC and environmental issues in Oregon. It includes opportunities for volunteers to network, build relationships in their local community, educate individuals on important environmental issues’ and encourage individuals to implement more sustainable practices at home.

OEC has provided various tools and a step-by-step guide to getting started. Specifically, we have included strategies to utilize resources in your local community to foster behavior change towards a more sustainable future in Oregon. By using these resources, volunteers can tailor their experience to their own interests and availability.

Additionally, we have provided specific ideas for outreach activities to implement in your own local community. Potential volunteer activities may include having coffee with friends and going through an eco-healthy homes checklist, going on a tour of local rain gardens and encouraging people to take action to “love” their river, or hosting a local foods potluck and encouraging people to complete the Vote with Your Fork Pledge. However, don’t feel limited by the activities we propose! If you have an idea, feel free to try it out. If it’s a success, share it with us. Together we can take action to safeguard what Oregonians love about Oregon.

Goals of the OEC Volunteer Network

  1. Give people the information they need to act on their environmental values in their roles as parents, neighbors, home keepers and community members.
  2. Give people opportunities to get involved as citizens speaking up for public policies to protect Oregon.
  3. Raise awareness about OEC’s work to protect what we love about Oregon, and invite people to support OEC as members.
