Free Money: Financial Assistance for Efficiency Improvements

There are a number of state and federal programs to help offset the costs of investment in energy efficiency. The State of Oregon maintains a Business Energy Tax Credit and an Energy Loan Program. The Business Energy Tax Credit is available to businesses that invest in energy conservation, lighting, recycling, alternative fuels, hybrid vehicles, weatherization, a variety of commuter transportation projects, efficient truck technology, and sustainable building measures. Credits are also available for companies that use solar, wind, hydro, geothermal or biomass to produce energy, displace energy, or reclaim energy from waste. The tax credit is 35-50% percent of the eligible project costs, over five years.

Federal business energy tax credits are also available for investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The Oregon Department of Energy Information for Businesses page provides a good overview of cash incentives and tax credits available to Oregon businesses.
