Little did I know what was in store in January, 1973, when I walked into OEC’s SW Water Street office. Judie (Neilson) Hansen was efficiently managing in a small area full of mis-matched furniture. I explained that Oregon Environmental Council sounded like a good place to volunteer because “environmental” was part of its name. I went away from that first encounter with a copy of Senate Bill 100, which I read that night in a toy-cluttered NE Portland living room after my preschoolers were tucked in.

Green Shopping and Services

There are many choices we can make as consumers that can be healthy, cost-conscious, and environmentally friendly. There's a world of choices for us. Do we support those in our community who make our clothes, grow (and raise) our food, provide environmentally thoughtful services, and more, or do we send our money out of our community for commodities and services out of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest?

Likewise, there's a lot of confusing - and sometimes conflicting - information out there about what's in the products we buy. And, believe it or not, a lot of products are still manufactured with toxic materials. Click on a link below for more.
