Dec. 5, 2007 — City of Hillsboro, Oregon Environmental Council, and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability to Host First-Ever Oregon Local Climate Protection Workshop December 10th
PORTLAND, Ore.—Dec. 5, 2007—The City of Hillsboro, the Oregon Environmental Council, and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability will host a daylong event on Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, to demonstrate how cities and counties can develop and implement effective, fiscally responsible actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Local leaders in government, non-profit, and private sectors at the forefront of Oregon's efforts to develop climate policy will present solutions, strategies, and opportunities. From reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions citywide, to meeting the goals of the U.S. Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement, leading experts will demonstrate how cities can both improve community livability and save taxpayer dollars.
Who: The City of Hillsboro, OR, the Oregon Environmental Council, and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI). Local elected officials will be addressing their climate-related agendas including Mayors Tom Hughes (Hillsboro), Kitty Piercy (Eugene), Bruce Abernethy (Bend), Alice Norris (Oregon City), and Portland City Commissioner Erik Sten. Technical and policy expert presenters include representatives from the Oregon Department of Energy, the Bonneville Environment Foundation, the Energy Trust of Oregon, the Apollo Alliance, and 3E Strategies. The keynote is a mid-day presentation by Secretary State Bill Bradbury.
